This class is about learning basic sewing skills that can be used for the rest of one's life. The unit is an introduction to basic sewing applications such as hand sewing buttons, hems, and small repairs to clothing. It will also include basic machine sewing for constructing a skirt, tote bag, and other small crafts. Several years ago women would get together to sew clothing and quilts for their families, while sewing the women developed friendships that lasted a lifetime. While we are learning to sew, maybe friendships will be stitched together to form a bond that will last a lifetime.
Technology Integration:
The students will be using the computer to research patterns from websites designed for sewing.
Digital portfolios will be constructed using pictures from a digital camera then upload to the animoto website to create a video of their work.
The students will also learn how to use a computerized embroidery sewing machine.
Although the students will not personally use the machine, they will be able to observe a pattern making machine. that takes measurements that are uploaded into a computer then creates a pattern specifically for individuals.
The students will also create a scrapbook of their work that is an ongoing project that will include some clip-art and 3-D samples of their work done in this class.
Power point will also be used to jump start a project by using vocabulary words, tips and instructions. An instrument of this will be the jeopardy game.
